Brooks Rehabilitation B.A.S.E. Program
I consider myself a very lucky person. I am able to attend an amazing university to learn more about becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy and while there I am still able to help out with Brooks Rehabilitation. For one of my classes, we had to make a flyer to get the word out and advocate so I took this opportunity to also help out an amazing therapist. Lauren Seeds, DPT at Brooks Rehabilitation saw a missing component her patients were missing out on and decided to start the B.A.S.E. Program.
What is the B.A.S.E. Program?
The Brooks Rehabilitation B.A.S.E. Program (Balance, Agility, Stability, and Equilibrium) is a community balance program that is designed to maintain and improve balance. By utilizing a harness system, members will be able to challenge their balance safely and independently. Member-specific balance circuits are designed for each program member by a physical therapist; these individualized circuits are determined by completing a formal physical therapy evaluation and re-assessment.
This is a great stepping stone for patients that get discharged from physical therapy but still want to help maintain what they have gained. The program is starting at the Brooks Orange Park NRC location to begin and it should be expanding in the next year to 2 more facilities and hopefully grow from there. I hope to be able to use this flyer to expand the B.A.S.E. Program and help individuals reduce their risk of falls and prevent the need for future physical therapy.
Physical therapists have a unique outlook on patients. Many businesses want repeat customers and to keep the customers they have. We as physical therapists are one of the few professions that we do not want to see you again. We want our patients to stay healthy and not need our services in the future. I hope this program is a step in that direction to help our community.
